You may not know this (you do if you follow me on Twitter, since you’ve been reading a lot of it lately), but I am a hockey fan.
Like all crazy sports fans, there is always one team I can’t stand. In this case, it is the Detroit Red Wings, who I am convinced made some sort of pact with Satan and who I am so tired of seeing hoist the Stanley Cup. Therefore, they cannot win this year. It’s unacceptable. I’ll take anyone but the Wings! Anyone! And that dude up top, Evgeni Nabokov, holds all my anti-Wings hopes and dreams right now. The San Jose Sharks must stop the Wings for me this year.
Game starts at 8:00 p.m. my time; if you’re a hockey fan who visits, feel free to muck around in the comments and chit-chat about the game while it’s going on or afterwards.
1416 and Counting 
You know, my beloved Red Wings didn’t exactly win it all last year. They came close, sure, but you got to see the Penguins raise The Cup in our house last year.
The Sharks could be the Wings. They could also beat themselves. Personally, I think the Wings will get past them and then lose to the Blackhawks in the Western Finals.
“The Sharks could be the Wings.” was supposed to be “The Sharks could beat the Wings.” Oops.
I watched that SCF game and it warmed my black heart to see the Wings lose. (Sorry, Shawn. :D)
I hate Nabokov when the Stars are playing against him but I love him in the playoffs when I don’t have a horse in the race. And now that San Jose’s jettisoned Roenick, I don’t have to feel horrible about rooting for them.
Personally, I think the Wings will get past them and then lose to the Blackhawks in the Western Finals.
My nightmare is seeing a Pens/Wings final again. Over it. So over it. I could deal with the Hawks or the Sharks from the West. Now that the Habs have beaten the Caps, I gotta root for them, I guess. I loathe, loathe, loathe the Flyers.
I’ve been hating the Flyers for a long time.
I’d love to see a Wings/Anyone final, obviously. I don’t really have anyone in the East to root for now that the Caps and Sens are out. I guess the Bruins.
I do want to see another Hawks/Wings WCF though. It’s just a great rivalry that is just starting to get good again. I really think that a good Chicago and a good Detroit and a good rivalry between them is good for the NHL as a whole, whoever you root for.
And it’s rough right now. There’s no real rivalry with Phoenix or San Jose. They aren’t as intense for the Wings fans as playing an Anaheim or Colorado.

Agreed; and, you do have to feel a bit sorry for the Hawks fans, they’ve been sort of trodden on for a while.

That’s pretty much how Stars fans feel too, with the inclusion of the Wings. I always feel “meh” about the Coyotes and Sharks. Although I wish Phoenix would get stronger just for the sake of the franchise’s well being and because I adore Dave Tippett.
Oh, I totally blanked on the Canucks. I want the Canucks to finally (!) win a Stanley Cup, man.
I don’t think the Canucks will get past Chicago.
Ah, well, it would be nice for them.
Just like it would be nice for the Stars to win a Cup where we don’t all have to hear the words “foot”, “crease” and “Brett Hull” repeated for years afterwards.
I’ve been trying not to bring that up
Ah, I wish andrew were around – he’s a Sabres/Sharks fan that hangs around here every so often and andrew and I rib each other nicely about that particular issue.
I’ve heard about it so much at this point I’m like, eh, whatever, but it would also be nice if Modano could’ve had another Cup win, too.
I have an entirely unhealthy amount of hate reserved specifically for Brett Hull.
