All the movies I need to see in theaters between now and December 31st, 2009:
- Drag Me To Hell – It’s a Sam Raimi movie that is not Spiderman related. Enough said.
- Dead Snow – Nazi zombies?
- Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen – I don’t need to justify myself to you!
- Public Enemies – Rrrrrrrrawr.
- Bruno – Going to be hilarious.
- Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince – Alan Rickman, please don’t upset me.
- G.I. Joe – THE SHAME.
- Inglorious Basterds – Well, duh. I MAY EVEN TAKE THE DAY OFF TO SEE IT. I live dangerously.
- Jennifer’s Body – No pressure, Diablo Cody.
- Shutter Island – Scorsese.
- 2012 – The things I do for you, Cusack. The things I do.
- Sherlock Holmes – Robert. Downey. Jr. I can stand the smarm of Jude Law for that.
That’s just the ones I really, really want to see. I know I’ll end up seeing others. I, uh, just wish I had some sort of theater discount right now. That would be … great.
Did I miss anything?
You’re seeing Ponyo.
You ARE.
I like the list. Most of it anyways. I’d add Moon, for sure. And probably Year One.
You ARE.
I am?!
I really have no desire to see that. I’m a heathen, I know! The Miyazaki fans are gathering en masse to stone me to death!
I’d add Moon, for sure. And probably Year One.
Damn, I hope we get those at the Angelika Dallas.

Look, we know you’re totally dragging the wife to see GI Joe. Don’t lie.

You’ll get Year One, for sure. It’s going to have a wide release. Don’t know about Moon yet…but watch the trailer and tell me it’s not worth a 30-40 minute drive to whatever theater is showing it.

HA! Yeah, pretty sure we’re skipping that one. This movie hurts my brain, and I’ll tell ya…If I’m killing brain cells I’m doing it the old fashioned way, with booze.
Oh! Also Night of the Demons. Definitely gonna see that one. Now there’s a movie I’ll drag the wife to see!

I would’ve put that on the list, but there’s no cast/director announced that I saw on Dark Horizons and it made me worried. I gotta rewatch the original, man!

Ooh, I will. I’ve been hearing good stuff, I’m just behind on my trailer watching.
Did you hear that Robert Rodriguez finally dropped the Barberella project? I don’t think we’ll get Machete in 2009 but MAYBE in 2010. I’m so hoping for 2010.

Don’t worry about all that. All you need to know is this: Linnea Quigley cameo. Boom.

I just hope it’s good. I hear Eli Roth wants to make Thanksgiving too. That should be entertaining.
Did you hear that Eli Roth’s character in Basterds was originally offered to Adam Sandler? WTF?!
I am?!

TINA FEYYYYYYYY.
Don’t worry about all that. All you need to know is this: Linnea Quigley cameo. Boom.
BOOOM! Seriously? That’s amazing!
I hear Eli Roth wants to make Thanksgiving too.
He does; he’s packaging it together as a double-movie deal with the huge monster sci-fi flick he wants to make or whatever. So I hope it gets made.
Did you hear that Eli Roth’s character in Basterds was originally offered to Adam Sandler? WTF?!
I never thought I’d say this, but Roth – he’s a step up. I can’t imagine Adam Sandler portraying Donowitz. Roth is slowly growing on me in the part…
TINA FEYYYYYYYY.
I have no idea what you’re talking about.
I have no idea what you’re talking about.
ahaha, Tina Fey is voicing one of the characters for the English version. As is Liam Neeson.
Roth is slowly growing on me in the part…
I like Roth, always have. He seems like a fun dude to drink beers with.

He should’ve just said Liam Neeson! Those two words and I’m there. Jeez. You guys should know me well enough by now!

Agreed, wholeheartedly – him and Tarantino both, actually. But as an actor, I’m not fond of him. His cameos in Death Proof and Cabin Fever were wince-worthy, but I’m slowly coming around to him in IB.
I keep forgetting he’s in the dub tbh. :(
Well, I pretty much forget everyone else besides TINA FEYYYYYYYYYYYYYY.

Hee! Awww. (Japanese animation kinda scares me.)
Oh, come on. How many of Miyazaki’s films have you seen?
But as an actor, I’m not fond of him.
I hear ya. Still, he’s light years better than Tarantino.

Aww c’mon! “He’s a professor…of being a DOG. Ohh, face!”
Classic.
How many of Miyazaki’s films have you seen?
None. On purpose. Japanese animation…scares me.
Still, he’s light years better than Tarantino.
“Chartreuse! The only drink so good, they named a color after it.”
I’m paraphrasing.
Aww c’mon! “He’s a professor…of being a DOG. Ohh, face!”
Aww, I do like that line, but the way he moves his face is so WEIRD. And my younger sister and I quote that line to each other a lot. That and: “Son, why would you steal a Snickers bar?”
“… The nougat?”
Heh.
That… makes me reconsider my friendship with you.
THERE AREN’T, LIKE, POST-MODERN FUTURESCAPES WHERE ROBOTS KILL PEOPLE IN HIS FILMS? It’s mostly cutesy but brilliant stuff.
THERE AREN’T, LIKE, POST-MODERN FUTURESCAPES WHERE ROBOTS KILL PEOPLE IN HIS FILMS?
Hey!
…I like zombies, too.
And Bruce Willis.
Oh, okay, I give. If I had to watch any of them, which would you recommend first?
Spirited Away, probably. I mean, it IS Oscar-winning.
My favorite though is Nausicaä, which is… well, a PRE-modern futurescape where robots kill people. Sorta, kinda, not really but a little.
I’m no anime junkie…not by a long shot, but I really enjoyed Princess Mononoke and Jin Roh: The Wolf Brigade.

Will Netflix.

Good to know!
I’ve been burned so much by anime that I almost can’t bear to watch it anymore. It’s either A) extremely dull to me or B) like a big dose of WTF IS THIS?
I’ve been burned so much by anime that I almost can’t bear to watch it anymore.
Anime is one of those things that people either ignore or are completely obsessed with. It’s almost always one or the other…and never the ‘tween shall meet.
Sort of like midget porn. Or Sex and the City.
I think I own about 4 or 5 anime flicks, and that’s about it. But I do enjoy the ones that I have!

Sex and the City… ::shudder::

Mine’s always been exposure to the shows, so Cowboy Bebop never inspired me much. Someone got me to watch a whole bunch of episodes of Witch Hunter: Robin, which was 12 episodes of eyerolling from me. I think Trigun is the only one that I was moderately entertained by.
Sex and the City… ::shudder::
HA! I love that SATC got the reaction. You’re all, “Midget porn? Whatever. Sex and the City? GAHHH!”
Too funny.

Hmmm…we might be on to something here. I’ve never found any anime t.v. shows to be all that enthralling. Stick to the movies and you might like some of it. You might just check out some of the more mainstream classics (Akira, Ghost in the Shell, Ninja Scroll). See what you think.
Too funny.
Sex and the City genuinely kind of disturbs me in a lot of ways.

I’ve seen half of Akira – I need to finish that, but I’ll definitely check out Ghost in the Shell and Ninja Scroll, too.
What about Avatar or Taking Woodstock? I’m also looking forward to Nine and Nowhere Boy (if it gets released in December).
The Road, The Lovely Bones..
The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus still needs a distributor.
I’m planning on seeing Wolverine, Star Trek, possibly Terminator 4, Harry Potter, Sherlock Holmes, and A Christmas Carol if Gary Oldman really is in it.
I don’t have high hopes for any of them, but. (And my reasons for seeing them are – in order – Hugh Jackman, Simon Pegg/ST:TOS, Christian Bale/T1 and T2, Alan Rickman, I love Sherlock Holmes and want to see if RDJ can pull it off, and – as mentioned – Gary Oldman.)
*sigh*
Mikey: Avatar & Taking Nowhere I feel “meh” about and I’m not sure why. Nine I’m curious about and I haven’t heard anything about Nowhere Boy.
aracir: The Road was a good book, but I’d really have to gear myself up to watch the movie adaptation. The Lovely Bones I have no positive or negative feelings toward; I guess that may change as we get closer to the release date.
If the Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus gets a distributor, I will definitely go to see it.
Erin: I had forgotten Gary Oldman was supposed to be in a Christmas Carol. DRATS. I’ll have to sit through a Jim Carrey flick. Eff.
Your list of men is AMAZING – amazing! – and I totally agree. For Star Trek, I’m going for John Cho/Simon Pegg/Karl Urban. Have you seen the new photos of RDJ as Sherlock Holmes? TO DIE FOR.
I’ll have to sit through a Jim Carrey flick. Eff.
My thoughts exactly. But, for Gary . . . I’ll do it.
^_^
(And RDJ does look adorable in those Holmes outfits =9)
I know that “Up” is going to be great. Pixar’s trailers never get me that excited for the films but I always end up enjoying myself when I see the finished products.
Oh wait, I’m also really excited to see:
The Taking of Pelham 123 — I assume you’re as in love with the original as I am.
Moon — Whitney saw this at Sundance and can’t wait for her friends to get an opportunity to check it out.
500 Days of Summer — I saw this at Sundance and it’ll definitely be in my Top 10 of 2009. Want to see it again, bad.

I was really underwhelmed by that trailer but Pixar’s never failed me yet…
The Taking of Pelham 123 — I assume you’re as in love with the original as I am.
SHHHHH I HAVE NEVER SEEN IT.
Yes, I know, I SUCK.
Moon & 500 Days of Summer – 500 Days of Summer looked kind of twee, but it’s that good? I give that a Keanu ‘whoa’!
500 Days is a romantic comedy…that’s true. But I loved it. It does a lot of things differently, refuses to play the easy joke, and isn’t dumb and we both know that that’s not a quality easy to come by.
