No reviews tonight. I’ve actually watched a fair amount of movies lately; Australia, Mr. Hobbs Takes A Vacation and other rewatches, but I haven’t had the bug to write them up. Honest to God, I don’t know when I’d get the time to sit down and take notes on Australia. Sucker is long.
So instead you get a mish-mash today of links and pretty pictures, as I try to get back into the swing of updating regularly.
Brief self-serving promotion: You should follow me on Twitter.
Since I was just talking about Deadpool, here’s a hilarious Marvel/DC video – Deadpool and Watchmen:
I don’t know what kills me more; “I’m a Marvel – WHOA!” or the idea of a Rorschach/Deadpool sitcom. Yes, it is funny and yes, you should watch it now. I may have watched it multiple times and giggled like a freak every time.
- You should probably be listening to the Geek Show Podcast. Those guys slay me, they really do.
New G.I. Joe trailer: Look, we all know by now this movie will be made of sweet cracky suck, but behold, Christopher Eccleston (the man will be a Hot Old Man Of The Month one of these months, I swear). That cheesy effect of the Eiffel Tower degrading/falling over must not be the most insane thing in the movie for them to put it in the trailer. I, uh, have no excuses for wanting to see this hot mess.
Slashfilm has new Inglourious Basterds posters for Pitt & Roth: Screw Brad Pitt, let’s look at ELI ROTH.

I smell bad, bad Photoshop. What in the name of sweet hell is going on with his face in that picture? It’s like he’s a Ken doll. Did they airbrush that scruff on? Did they hire the guy who did the Zombie Wax Liam Neeson Taken poster to do this one?
New Star Trek Pictures: I wasn’t too excited for Star Trek originally; I know, that’s geek heresy and I deserve to be interrogated by a Klingon inquisitor or something. After looking at these and hearing an early review from a friend, I’m ready to go see Star Trek. I’m taking my Star Trek loving mom for Mother’s Day to see this one.
Blah Blah Blah Blah District 9 Trailer: Consider me underwhelmed. So underwhelmed, I might catch it on basic cable five years from now.
Final Girl talks about sucky ‘89 horror: Say what you will, but I LOVES me some Deep Star Six. Miguel Ferrer! Mutant monster things! I watched it a lot when I was a kid. That, and The Abyss, I think, are my earliest childhood memories of underwater “monster” movies (let’s not get all cranky about The Abyss being a monster movie now, you know what I mean).
Jason from Invasion of the B Movies is writing a book. Which is awesome, and that’s pretty much all I gotta say about that.
Now, who can outgeek each other in the comments section, hmm?

Aww forget apologies, Alan Moore should be thanking the creator of this Marvel/DC video for coming up with that genius sitcom idea. Think of the merchandising possibilities!
Also great job for having such a geeky mom! I’m still trying to explain my love of comic books to mine. Though she did ask me (unprompted) yesterday if I’d seen Wolverine yet- it’s nice she sees the connection.

I KNOW! Tiny Rorschach is kind of adorable, actually. (I have “Copyright Deadpool, don’t steal or I’ll sueeee….” stuck in my head now.
Also great job for having such a geeky mom!
She’ll be thrilled to hear it! My mom turned us on to Star Trek, Star Wars and the Aliens franchise. She also has tried for most of my life to get me to like 2001, which she thinks is epic. I don’t think she’ll ever give up.
It should tell you a lot that for years, my mother has longed for a Tribble. (And she was fantastically enthused to hear that Eddie Izzard, who she loves, will be in a remake of The Day of the Triffids.)
I’m still trying to explain my love of comic books to mine. Though she did ask me (unprompted) yesterday if I’d seen Wolverine yet- it’s nice she sees the connection.
Aww, she’s trying! I don’t think I ever had to explain anything to mine. My parents are not big comics fans, but I was older when I first got into comics and didn’t have them as a teenager, so there you go.
I think comics have evolved so much in the past 30 years that the idea of “comic books” for the general population is not necessarily what comic books are today.
Hey, thanks for the shout out! It’s offically half way done!
I dunno I’m looking forward to the G.I Joe movie. I haven’t seen a dumb action flick in awhile. Transporter 3 left me wanting more and Crank 2 was….crazy as all hell.

Aww man! I wish my parents were geeks! They stopeed trying to understand my hobbies and interests a loooong time ago!
I don’t think the Roth poster looks too bad. Not great. Looks like his clothes have been photoshopped on. Weird.
On the whole comicbook thing…I haven’t collected them since I was about 13 or 14, so sometimes I’m waaay out of the loop. Guys like Deadpool and Cable were being invented as I was getting out of the scene. For the most part, I can keep up though.
It’s offically half way done!
Yay, Jason! Good job, man! I have yet to see Crank 2. Was it worth it? I loved the first one – for the record.

My dad is definitely NOT into sci-fi. But my mom would rent stuff like The Dark Crystal for us when we were kids, and she and my dad let me read all kinds of sci-fi/fantasy books when we were kids. Stuff like Jurassic Park, etc. (My mom had to go have a showdown with a principal over letting me take Jurassic Park to school for free-reading time! True story.)
Guys like Deadpool and Cable were being invented as I was getting out of the scene.
Yeah, Deadpool really is the best character, I think, that they came up with in the ’90’s. I got out of comics and then I was so far behind, I never got caught up. I like comic books, but especially when it comes to the X-Men ‘verse, there’s just so effing much material. Plus, comics and soap operas have so much in common. If you miss a couple issues, chances are you missed someone dying, someone being resurrected and some huge drama that involves 47 different people and twenty odd plot points.
Add into the fact that I went heavy on the Vertigo materials for a while, and now I’m way behind.
Deadpool, however, is worth it. And Marvel now does online subscriptions where you can catch up on back issues, but I hate their fancy ass comic-viewer.
Caitlin, your Dad is definitely into sci-fi; I’m just damned particular about it. I love the old Jules Verne, HG wells stuff and all of the classic Asimov tales. My tastes run to the literary form of sci-fi rather than fantasy.

Oops! Sorry, Daddy, I stand corrected.
I like comic books, but especially when it comes to the X-Men ‘verse, there’s just so effing much material.
I was always a Punisher fan. Like most boys my age. Although, I read just about everything. I also liked Ghost Rider a great deal. But I’ll be damned if I’ve read a comic in the past 15 years. I didn’t even know about Marvel’s on-line thingy.
I didn’t even know about Marvel’s on-line thingy.
It’s actually not a bad price, at all: http://www.marvel.com/digitalcomics/
Their viewing window, however, is what made me decide to not even think about it. It was really hard for me to sit there and be able to read pages, so it wouldn’t be worth it to me to invest money in it.
I never read any of Punisher or Ghost Rider. Forgive me, but I sorta like the Nic Cage Ghost Rider movie, in a cheesy-bad way.

Hey, I didn’t think it was the worst thing in the world. Close…but not the worst. I was expecting it to be much more craptastic. But then again I’m a sucker for Peter Fonda and Donal Logue. Of course, it also doesn’t hurt that Eva Mendes is somking hot.
But then again I’m a sucker for Peter Fonda and Donal Logue.
Well, I’m a sucker for flaming skeletons riding motorcycles with chain-whip-things, what can I say? So cheesy, it was great.
Also one of the few movies I’ve actually liked Eva Mendes in.
I also didn’t mind The Punisher movie that much at all. I acknowledge that it’s not good, but I never read the source material so I can never get all wound up about how far it strays from the original story.
Have yet to see Punisher: War Zone, though, although that might require a drinking game from what I hear.

Yeah, the franchise really has been shit on for years now….going all the way back to the late 80’s. Stan Lee has publicly acknowledged, from the series’ inception, that he doesn’t like the Punisher. I think that has something to do with the revolving door of artists that drew the book for almost a decade, as well as the lousy treatment the films get.

I haven’t seen it either, and while 99% of the reviews I’ve read are negative, I’ll still check it out. Strap on the drinking boots and pretend you’re watching a Steven Segal movie…

She was pretty funny in Stuck on You. Although I don’t know anyone, besides myself, who liked that movie either. Man, I’m noticing a pattern here.

DUDE, speaking of Seagal, you know they’re making Under Siege 3, right?

OH YES.
Although I don’t know anyone, besides myself, who liked that movie either. Man, I’m noticing a pattern here.
I need to see that one! I would probably enjoy it though (I would imagine). I’ll bump it to the top of the Netflix queue – I just gotta write myself a reminder.

What the Christ, WHY?!
DUDE, speaking of Seagal, you know they’re making Under Siege 3, right?
Gross!

I think you might. I think everyone who hated it were expecting something more along the lines of There’s Something About Mary. It’s not that type of humor though. There’s very little slapstick. The humor is different…like when they’re playing rec league hockey and the conjoined brothers are the team goalie. Stupid stuff like that. (Then when they get split up Matt Damon goes back to playing and he gets lit up because he only stands on the right side of the net. Awesome.)
What the Christ, WHY?!
Stan’s old fashioned. He likes his superheroes to be good and wholesome. And radioactive, apparently. The Punisher is none of things. He’s just a dude who uses lots of guns to kill people.
Gross!
IT’S SET IN SPACE!

Hee! Awwww. See, if it has Damon in it, I’m there. I find Matt Damon to be an endearable goofy dude in a lot of ways, so I’m willing to watch whatever he’s in.

So the more realistic superhero is not for Stan Lee? What the hell. I will say this, I always liked the general concept of the Punisher.
IT’S SET IN SPACE!
Sorry kido, no dice. I just cannot see it working. At all. That being said, I will totally watch it when it comes on cable.

I like most of his stuff too. He’s good in this one, he and Eva Mendes kinda made the movie for me. But Greg Kinnear and Cher are awesome too.

I dunno, but look at the 3 movies that have been made so far. It’s obvious someone at Marvel doesn’t give a shit how the Punisher looks on film. Speaking of…you never reviewed Dolph’s Punisher for worst movies ever! After the dreck you sat through it would probably be a refreshing change.

Netflix doesn’t stock it and the three video rental places around me don’t have it either!
I am unashamed of liking Dolph Lundgren, so I’d be glad to sit through it any time.
Sorry kido, no dice. I just cannot see it working. At all. That being said, I will totally watch it when it comes on cable.
Oh totally. I think that Seagal is just trying to make each movie more and more over the top. Goodness.
Poor Punisher. The fans deserved better. :(

Yeah, you’re definitely looking in the wrong place. Try the $2.99 DVD bin at Walmart next time you’re there. I bet you find it.
Will do, andrew, will do!
